Introducing Yourself During an Interview

Most interviewers like asking the question tell me about yourself. This is because they want to know about the capabilities, experience, strengths and weaknesses of the person they are interviewing.

In answering this question, do well to include the following ideas;

1. It’s essential to identify the current role or job that you are doing to give the interviewer a better understanding.

2. Talk about your experience related to the role you are applying for, and don’t waste time on unnecessary and unrelating functions.

3. Mention the skills you have that make it directly related to the role and the ones that make you stand out from the pool of applicants.

4. Highlight your values as a person, especially the ones that sell your services well to the recruiting manager.

Your presentation should be at most three minutes and link what you have done in the past, present and future. It should be such that anyone who listens to you should know your kind of person, goals and passion.

A good example should be in this manner;

“I am a Customer Service Specialist with ten years of experience in the banking sector. I currently work with Standard Bank as the Team Lead for Customer Service. I pay attention to details, being emotionally intelligent, am an effective listener and communicator, and love welcoming new challenges that improve my abilities. I look forward to joining an organisation that values its customers and provides the proper staff growth and development environment. So this is one of the main reasons I want to join your team”.

In conclusion, there is no best way to answer the question but to remain positive and show excitement.
