September 26, 2023
Application deadline closed.

Job Description

TransPerfect was founded in 1992 with a simple mission to provide the highest quality language services to leading organizations worldwide. Started as a two-person company operating out of a dorm room, TransPerfect has spent nearly three decades solving global business challenges for our clients, and has turned into one of the most successful growth stories in the business world.

About the Project

The project seeks to build a large set of annotated images to help machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) systems perform more fairly and ethically across a diverse range of people.

Task Description:

For this project, you will be required to follow specific instructions and submit a set of 12 photos. 10 of these photos will need to show a variety of situations (different body poses; interactions with other people, objects or animals; and other activities) and settings (indoor, outdoor, etc.) at different days and times. 2 of these photos will be selfies.

How is my data used?

  • By participating in this project, your image, demographic information, and related annotations (“Your Data”) may be shared publicly so that the broader AI community may develop, train, and evaluate ML and AI software, algorithms, and other technologies. Your name and email address will not be shared publicly, and individuals accessing the image set will be contractually restricted from attempting to re-identify you, along with other reasonable use restrictions.
  • Sharing photos and other information online is fairly commonplace; however, it’s important to remember the risks when allowing Your Data to be shared online. Once Your Data is made public, it could possibly be used for unauthorized or unintended purposes, such as catfishing or deep fakes or sold to third parties for various purposes, such as targeted advertising or other commercial or political activities. It’s important to carefully consider the potential risks before participating in this project.

Who is eligible?

To participate you must meet the following qualifying criteria:

  • Reside in one of the following countries: Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Egypt, India, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria or Senegal.
  • Be at least the age of majority under the laws of your jurisdiction.
  • Be able to submit images from a device with a digital camera such as a smartphone or tablet or a digital camera (model 2011 or later).
  • The device must be able to record Exif data (such as camera exposure, date/time or location where the image was captured).
  • Be able to submit 12 photos with a minimum resolution of 8 MP, following specific instructions shared by our Team.
  • Be able to involve a friend or a relative in the project who is willing to appear in some of the photos (2 out of 12) and to provide their consent, following specific instructions shared by our Team.
  • Read and agree to the project’s informed consent form.
  • Provide images that have been captured at least 7 days apart. Longer periods are also acceptable (for example, 1 or more years apart).
  • Provide demographic information for both primary and secondary subjects (e.g., ancestry, pronouns, nationality, country of residence, age and other annotations).
  • Provide self-reported demographic information (e.g., ancestry, pronouns, nationality, country of residence, age, and other annotations).
  • You will be asked to confirm you have secured the rights to the photos you upload or to provide the contact information of the owner of these photos, who can provide the rights to the photos.

Where is the project taking place?

  • This is a remote project. You will use our DataForce image collection platform to upload your photos from the comfort of your home.

Our team will reach out to selected applicants within 3 weeks after signing up for the project with information on the next steps.
